Took my money but didn't fulfill my order

Took my money then ghosted me. I purchased several products which still have not shipped, no follow-up from support, no communication, no solution. Buyer beware.

Terrible customer support

Terrible customer support

I placed an order, and it was delayed. I was leaving the country the next day for 3+ months, so contacted the support to redirect the package back to their warehouse. I got a "reassuring" reply from the "customer support", saying that I should not worry, because my package would be delivered soon.

Good product, but...

I've been drinking Soylent for years. I've always enjoyed it. I think the company name is funny and I genuinely enjoy the taste and convenience of their product.

Unfortunately, I've just gotten to the point where I'm over it. It was probably about 2 years ago when they just suddenly quietly shrunk the bottle size while the price changed the same, as though they expected no one would notice. Shortly after, Soylent was pulled from the shelves of the only store near me where I knew it was sold.

I mostly just order online, but I was always bothered by the fact that there are some flavors that there appears to be simply no way to try without buying an entire case online. Their store locator does not allow you to choose a distance range but shows NO stores "near me" that sell original or Cafe Chai flavors. When asked about it, customer service offered no solutions and kept trying to point me towards the Store Locator I already told them I used, and services like AmazonFresh that aren't available in my area (when they clearly have access to my address to know that they're sending links to services that aren't offered here).

It was over a year ago when I suggested that there be customizable boxes or at least some way to buy individual bottles. I understand that consumer suggestions are not guaranteed to be granted, but I have years of marketing experience and have seen plenty of other companies successfully offer customizable subscriptions. I knew it would be helpful to other customers as well as the company itself. I don't know if anyone who could do anything about it ever actually got wind of my suggestion. At the very least, they could have made sure that all of the flavors they sell were available in a variety pack - even if you have to purchase multiple different variety packs to try them all.

Either way, they added a misleading widget to the "manage subscription" page that makes it look like you can add an individual bottle to your next box. It actually is supposed to add a case of that flavor, but it gave me an error message when I tried to use it. When I emailed customer service about it, they added over $80 worth of product that I did not want to my next order without asking me first. In my conversation with the customer service representative, there were multiple instances of them not reading what I said before replying and thus giving irrelevant or unhelpful responses, or ignoring questions completely. The entire conversation was unhelpful and accomplished nothing.

I really don't have any major anger against Soylent or anything like that, but I just got to the point where all the little disappointments added up and made me decide it wasn't worth it any longer. I like Soylent, but I'm probably going to avoid buying it until I see some evidence that they care about subscribers and making sure that their product is actually available to the people who want to try it.

For now, I'm trying Huel. Ordered my first box and it came 2 days later (faster than Soylent's shipping, lol). Huel's ready-made beverage is actually more expensive, but the bottles are much bigger and the product actually appears to be better for you. Huel doesn't appear to have customizable boxes either, but ALL of their flavors are in their variety box, so they're not making consumers buy an entire case of a specific flavor just to try it. That seems like a no-brainer to me.

Horrible customer service

Product is pretty solid, but the customer service is not great. I live in Hawaii and expect shipping to cost more. The problem is that for a subscription of the powder it went from $15 to $112 and they forgot to inform me of this. The product costs $52, but the shipping is more than 2x and this is kind of a big deal on whether I would continue my subscription. Feel like they really dropped the ball on this one.

Wrong product, no answer

I ordered a case of powder and was charged for it. I asked them to change the shipping address (within the same state, no cost difference), and they did. I received a case of liquid worth only half as much as the powder I ordered. Multiple efforts to contact Soylent got no reply. It was only resolved when the payment processor refunded my money. Never heard from Soylent at all after the address change.

I had been looking forward to making Soylent powder part of my daily routine. After this experience, I've written off Soylent entirely. If they can't ship the right product, and won't communicate about it, why bother?

Now sending almost out of date product

I love the product, been using the drinks since August 2019 - but my last two orders had almost out of date products sent e.g. the order which arrived two days ago 11th March 2020 has bottles with use by dates of 25th March - the same date as the previous order. Since I had 5 bottles left from that order, the new order will pass its "Best Buy" date before I can use them. Never used to be like this, always previously got product with best buy dates a couple of months later. Disappointing change.

Absolutely fantastic! WOW!

I have been drinking Soylent for 2 years now, the product is wonderful and the favors are a very good selection. If I ever had an issue which were few and far between, they cleared up no questions asked. This is a complete meal, I don't have much time in the morning and skip breakfast. A friend recommended I try the Soylent meal replacements, my doctors said eat breakfast and you will lose weight. They were both right, I've lost 57 lbs and feel great, I guess when you skip a meal your body store everything as fat for lean periods. Who would figure eating more frequent smaller meals and you lose the pounds!

I could see myself drinking this long-term

I've had a good experience so far with this stuff. First of all, it's not a scam site, if you order Soylent, you will receive it. I received my shipment on time and well-packaged.

If you subscribe for a monthly shipment you'll get a discount. Also if it's your first time ordering, spend a few seconds looking up "Soylent coupon" on Google. That saved me another $5 on my first shipment.

About the product itself, as of writing this review, I've only tried Soylent 2.0 (the liquid version). There's differing opinions on the taste according to the research I did before ordering but here's mine:

It's not good... but its not bad either. It tastes like liquefied plain oatmeal without any sugar or honey. If that sounds good to you, you'll most likely love it. I'm fine with it. It's very convenient and like I said, it's not horrible so I find it easy to drink.

Soylent themselves stated that it's not meant to replace food completely although I know at least one person has gone a full year (Soylent is only about a year old as of this review) on just Soylent.

Also, as a diet option: Soylent was not created for losing weight in mind. That being said, from what I've observed, people who are fit won't lose much if any weight but those who are overweight might see weight loss if they replace one or more calorie-laden meals with Soylent.

I've only been drinking Soylent for a bit over a week but I feel like I've lost a little bit of weight (I'm only replacing 1 - 2 meals a day with Soylent not going full). I've not made any other changes to my lifestyle lately. So take from that what you will if you're thinking of using Soylent as a means to loose weight.
